Pacific Trailways is an Auckland (NZ) based company established in 1978 and dedicated to creating innovative and inspiring New Zealand tour adventures. Our heritage is built on the legacy and enterprising tourism vision of founding director, the late Bill Griffith.
Novelty and creative thinking is in our DNA. In the late 1980's, Pacific Trailways directors took the lead in creating and operating New Zealand's first ever multi-day private charter rail tours. In the late 1990's, plans were in place to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium.
From 2015 to 2021 Pacific Trailways designed and operated innovative, multi-day 'DC-3 NZ Air Tours'. In another first for New Zealand, these tours featured 'low and slow' flight sectors aboard a specially chartered vintage 1944 DC-3 airliner affectionately named 'Betsy'.
Our focus on 'Air Tours' of New Zealand continues today. With the vintage DC-3 no longer on the scene, we've created a new generation of signature 12-day private air tours.
Our newest air tours continue the breathtaking 'low and slow' flight-seeing experience at the heart our deluxe tour adventures. Today we charter whisper quiet, turbo-prop Cessna 208B airplanes to continue our New Zealand Air Tour adventures. The big 12-seat Cessnas feature high wings for unhindered scenic views, making them ideal to carry our 'air tour' tradition forward.
Pacific Trailways is 'Qualmark Bronze' accredited and a member of the Tourism Sustainability Commitment, taking our place among New Zealand tourism businesses with a focus on sustainability. We are also a member of 'Tourism Industry Aotearoa' (TIA), the independent association representing all sectors of New Zealand's large and diverse tourism industry. TIA's vision is to lead the world’s most sustainable tourism industry. Pacific Trailways is proud to play our part in achieving that vision.
Pacific Trailways works with trusted tourism industry partners to achieve innovative tour experiences designed to offer rewarding encounters and fresh perspectives. We have the flexibility to design and operate special interest or custom tours too. We welcome ideas and are happy to partner with groups or individuals who may wish to create their own group tour experiences.

Proud Kiwi Steve Reeve has enjoyed a near to 40 year career in tourism. His earlier industry roles included managing tours and leading tour groups, creating and marketing unique tour experiences, teaching tourism (as an airline trainer) and advocating for the tourism sector.
He believes the best tours and holiday vacation experiences should "surprise, delight and inspire", creating fond memories for years to come. Steve enjoys stepping into the Tour Director role on occasion to lead Pacific Trailways tour groups – delighting in every opportunity to share New Zealand with tour guests.
